![]() I want more control than just merely placing a texture file into Illustrator, that's not going to work for what I need to do. Now, I want to create a brush with this texture because my specific idea of how to use this texture in the context of a client project. You can now discard the image if desired. These are in the exercise files for this course so you can actually not only use this specific brush but you can use this source texture set that I included with the exercise files so they're fun to play around with. Choose Edit, Define Brush Preset and type a name for your brush and click Ok. I just created this using a brush and some leftover house paint and I painted it actually on light-colored cardboard and then scanned it in and created what you see here. You can make a brush out of a colorful image but converting your document to Grayscale will give you a better idea of what you are doing. ![]() The texture that I'm going to take now and create a Photoshop brush with is a house paint texture. Select>All everything on your canvas and then choose Edit>Define Brush Preset. Photoshop uses gray scale info while defining brushes. In this movie, I'm going to walk you through how to take a texture or any image for that matter and turn it into a Photoshop brush. One of the best ways to use textures in Photoshop is to turn them into a brush.
